The Kraftpad is a cheap USB dance pad that was available from Kraft.  It has the joystick axis problem and by remapping joystick inputs to button inputs, the pad can be used with Stepmania.  This mod disconnects the bottom left and right inputs which are not used in Stepmania.

From the back side of the pad, remove the six screws from the black box that contains the pad electronics.

Peel the white tape and cellophane up slightly so you can see the components as shown in the picture.  Don't worry, it's easy to peel up.

 

1. Cut trace at #1

2. Scrape pcboard solder mask to reveal metal and solder a wire as shown from scraped trace to the solder pad above.  The solder mask comes off easily when scraped with an exacto knife revealing the copper that you can solder to. 
Note that this pad either has a wire on either the component or opposite side.  (I have seen both cases)  No big deal, just solder to the pad.

3. Cut trace as shown at #3
4. Cut trace as shown at #4
5. Remove c11.  I think you could get away with leaving this on.  This would leave two caps in parallel, but that won't make much difference.
6. Cut trace at #6. It's a little hard to see in the pic but it's right at the edge of the white tape that I peeled up.

7. Add a wire from the left side of c11 to the bottom of c12 as shown. One side is circled at #7. 

Stick the tape back down, button it all up, change the inputs in stepmania to reflect the new connections and enjoy.
